Flushing Hydrants

 

The Public Works Department will be flushing water mains Monday September 25th, 2023, through Friday September 29th, 2023, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  Residents may experience rusty water and/or low water pressure while the mains are being cleared.  The water is not harmful to drink but residents are advised not to wash clothes in the rusty water during the flushing time and a couple hours following the flushing of the mains.

 

BENEFITS OF HYDRANT FLUSHING

 

1. Improved Water Quality - Hydrants are flushed at least twice yearly to remove residue from the main pipe system, which helps keep our water clear.

 2. Fire Safety and Fire Rating - The Water Utility tests the flow at hydrants to ensure it is adequate to pump to the City’s fire tanker. Hydrant flow is important in helping control fire insurance costs.
