Outdoor Warning Siren Update

The City’s primary outdoor warning siren is currently out of service and undergoing repairs. During this time, the secondary siren (located near Maple River School) remains operational; however, it may not be heard as clearly in all areas of the community.

With severe weather possible this week, residents are reminded that outdoor warning sirens are designed to alert those who are outside. Everyone should rely on multiple methods for receiving alerts, including weather apps, NOAA Weather Radio, and local TV and radio stations.

We will share updates as repairs progress. Thank you for your understanding.

Severe Weather Awareness

Severe Weather Week is April 13-17, 2026. Outdoor warning sirens will sound in a simulated tornado warning at 1:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 16.

Countywide Siren Assessment Project

In addition to Severe Weather Week, Blue Earth County Emergency Management, in partnership with the cities within the county, has been conducting a countywide siren assessment project.  Actual siren testing will happen the week of April 20 (weather dependent).

During this time, residents may hear brief, intermittent siren sounds as part of the testing process. These tests will be short in duration.

Important: In the event of an actual tornado warning, sirens will sound continuously for 2 full minutes.

Testing may occur during daytime and evening hours throughout the week.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to ensure our emergency warning system remains reliable and effective.
