When do I need a building permit?
A building permit is generally required before starting most exterior construction or structural improvements within the City of Mapleton. Permits help ensure that work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.
You will need a building permit if you plan to:
-
Construct a new building or structure
-
Add on to an existing building
-
Build or replace decks, porches, or accessory buildings (such as garages or sheds)
-
Add a fence
-
Add or replace exterior doors, windows, roofing, siding, or egress windows
-
Demolition
The City of Mapleton does not require building permits for interior changes, including foundation work.
If you are unsure whether a permit is required for your project, please contact City Hall before starting work. City staff can help determine whether a permit or additional approvals may be needed.
What are the permit fees?
We accept cash or check payments for building permits. Checks can be made payable to the City of Mapleton.

We approve building permits over email. If your project meets the zoning code, we can typically get approvals done within 1-7 business days.
